da realsbet: Leeds director of football Victor Orta could be about to walk the club into another nightmare with reports surfacing about one of his mooted targets…
What’s the word?
da cassino: According to The Athletic’s Phil Hay, the Yorkshire giants still remain interested in Liverpool winger Harry Wilson with the Spaniard a big fan of his, although any potential deal isn’t close.
Whilst earlier this week, the Daily Mirror revealed that the Premier League champions weren’t going to sway from their £20m valuation amid interest from a whole host of top-flight teams, including the Whites.
They claim that Aston Villa are leading the charge despite only offering an initial £12m.
Another mistake?
It’s been widely reported that Marcelo Bielsa wants another winger amongst his squad with their interest in Rangers’ Ryan Kent well known too, but a £20m swoop for Wilson reeks of being another Jean-Kevin Augustin-like blunder.
The 23-year-old was part of the Bournemouth side that were relegated last season and although he bagged seven goals, he averaged a poor 0.5 dribbles and 0.5 key passes per game, via WhoScored, which isn’t good enough for a winger.
A fair majority of those strikes came from set-pieces too, perhaps not a surprise given Jurgen Klopp’s praise, back in December he said: “Each free-kick is a proper threat. We were never in doubt about Harry’s shooting abilities, his skills in that part of the game are incredible – world-class, for sure.”
Bielsa’s first-choice starters are likely to be Jack Harrison and Helder Costa, so Wilson is by no means guaranteed an instant shot, so at a whopping £20m it would certainly be a waste.
The Argentine should instead look to call upon a talented youngster like Ian Poveda who we managed to see a glimpse of at the back end of last season.
Instead, Orta and co are playing with fire and would certainly start to look brash in their spending – ala Fulham and Villa in recent seasons.
AND in other news, United must win the race for “unbelievable” 20 y/o target…
